Getting Ready For The Summer With These Facts About Tanning

There’s nothing like enjoying the summer, lying down by the pool, and soaking in all the vitamin D from the sun. As a plus, along with a relaxing experience, you also end up with a nice tan. Skin tanning is an effective method to darken the skin. People who usually have a lighter skin tone opt for tanning as it is believed to make one more attractive. This is why when the winter fades away, you’ll see a lot of people heading for the beach or to the tanning salon to get that deep-toned skin.

But what makes tanning so special? Is it just a beauty standard or is there scientific evidence behind the love for tanning?

If you’re curious about tanning, stick around for these interesting facts.

1. Vitamin D But Not From The Sun

The most common defense used for tanning is that it is a great way to absorb some Vitamin D. With so much time spent indoors, most people lack this essential vitamin. But, experts suggest otherwise. They state that the safest way to get enough vitamin D would be through diet, not from prolonged sun exposure.

2. Tanning Is Popular Amongst Women

Tanning is common between young men and women but, according to stats, women enjoy it much more. A survey revealed that most of the indoor tanning salons are used by white women and non-Hispanic women. 32% of the female population that uses tanning beds happens to be 18 -21 years old, 30% are 22-25 years old, 22% are 26-29 years old, and only 17% happen to be 30-34 years old.

3. Tanning Can Cause Premature Aging

Isn’t it ironic that something supposed to make you look beautiful is actually damaging your skin? This is the same question you’ll be asking once you find out that tanning can speed up the aging process. It can also lead to permanent structural damage to the skin which can result in age spots, saggy skin, and wrinkling.
