Regardless of how much viewers seem to enjoy their favorite on-screen characters having a romantic link-up, shooting intimate scenes in front of a camera and filming crew can be quite a daunting task for the actors. This embarrassment is further compounded if the two co-stars end up hating their intimate moment for a variety of other reasons too.
Whether it’s a lack of chemistry, bad breath (yes, that can happen, even if you’re a ‘celebrity’!), or an apparent discomfort in front of the filming crew, here are some of our top picks of kisses in TV shows that the actors look back on in disgust.
Candace Cameron in “Full House”
In the original “Full House,” Candace Cameron could be seen getting physical with her childhood love Steve. The two rekindle their romance in the reboot “Fuller House,” wherein Cameron’s character DJ Tanner finds herself torn between two men.
As Tanner struggles to choose between her childhood romance and her new love Matt, she also ends up kissing both of her co-stars. What Candace Cameron did not like was the fact that in addition to kissing her “Full House” co-stars, her roles in other film projects also required the actress to get physical with her fellow actors, a notion she found extremely distressing due to the fact that in real life, she was now a wife and a mother of three.
Neal McDonough in “Desperate Housewives”
During its eight-season run on television, “Desperate Housewives” gave us our fair share of romance, relationships, and drama. The series revolved around the lives of a group of women, which included actress Nicollette Sheridan’s character who was married to Dave Williams, played by Neal McDonough.
During the show’s filming, it was rumored that McDonough hated kissing his on-screen wife Sheridan but contrary to popular opinion, it had nothing to do with their chemistry or her kissing abilities. As it turns out, McDonough’s strict religious beliefs, coupled with the fact that he was married with children in real life, made it very hard for him to do any justice to ‘bedroom scenes’ with female co-stars.
Tony Curtis in “Some Like It Hot”
For some of us, getting to kiss Marilyn Monroe, whether in real life or on a film set, might be the ultimate dream. Oddly enough, this didn’t seem to be the case when Tony Curtis locked lips with the legendary actress during the late ‘50s in “Some Like It Hot.”
According to Curtis, when their characters get romantic after a troubling murder, the resulting on-camera smooch with Monroe was an awful experience. In a later interview with The Daily Mail, the “Sweet Smell of Success” actor revealed that his fellow co-star almost choked him by sticking her tongue down his throat! Yikes.
